Dixie Quick’s Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

A friend and I just went there for lunch. It was quite a drive for us to get there. Told us it would be 20 minutes. After that time noticed at least 2 parties that arrived after and seated before. Told the kitchen was backed up 45 minutes. People were sitting there waiting for food. Lots of dirty tables. Host was rude and arrogant.

Went to visit a local friend who took us here for Saturday breakfast/brunch. It was really good! Staff was super nice, they allowed our dog to sit on the patio which is a big bonus in my book! Food was great although it wouldda been nice to know ahead of time that the red beans and rice omelet had meat in it. We're vegetarian, so not cool, but then again, it IS Iowa and so it wasn't that much of a surprise. Prices for three people were great too, but the kitchen staff was slow, we waited a lonnnnnng time for our food. That's OK though, it was a nice day and they allowed our doggie to be with us, so who cares? Love it!

LOVE Dixie Quicks!! The food is wonderful, and the service is even better. Their soups are adventurous and I've never tried one I didn't like. The potato pickle soup is wonderful, and something I normally wouldn't try! Their eggs benedcit is phenomenal, the best I've ever had. The Dixie Scramble is very good, as is the sexual chocolate french toast. For lunch/dinner, the blackened catfish is always a hit. Great place, fair prices, wonderful food!

Interesting place visually, but the service was slower than molasses. By the time our our brunch meal came I felt like I had aged a bit and was ready to gnaw the leg off our table. Over 1 hour from order taken to being served, and I think they brewed the coffee in South America and walked it here, it was good but lost a bit by the time it actually made it from the pot to my cup. Our waitress brought our ticket then we waited 15 minutes for her to retrieve until we gave up and walked it to the front ourselves. Food was good, but if that can't match it up with good service, why waste your time.

This place was recommended by a co-worker who is a native of Iowa. So yesterday, I took the time to make reservations and drive from west omaha to the restaurant. Upon entry, I noticed that I was the only person there who was not caucasian - which never bothers me. I mean come on, I'm in the military and used to being different than others. I got seated and was asked what kind of drink I wanted. I ordered my coffee and received it promptly - thought we were off to a good start. However, after 10 minutes of sitting there and watching the server seat someone after me and take their order before mine, I began to get a sick feeling. The waitress never came back to my table so I asked another one if someone was going to take my order. She took my order - and when I asked for the eggs in my benedict to be scrambled instead of poached, I was informed very loudly and haughtily that I could not do that. Again I asked her is she was not going to take my order and have my eggs cooked the way I wanted and she said, "we don't do that here." At that point, I packed up my things and left. Disappointed is the least of how I felt. Aside from Dario's Brasserie, I've not had many bad experiences here but nevertheless, I wouldn't go back. Terrible service and just all around snobby prejudice. No thanks.

consistently good food and quality and tons of options for vegetarians (not so much for vegans) If you eat eggs I would recommend the Dixie scramble with the tomatoes and tomato butter. They have good drinks here. I have eaten here at least 5 times and have never had a bad meal here.

Terribly slow. Waited over an hour after ordering to get our food and we were just passing thru on a road trip with kids. Not awesome

I've been to this restaurant three or four times and it is always fantastic. Today I had the chilaquiles and they are among the most delicious thing I've ever eaten. In previous occasions I've had the waffles, and the Dixie scramble. The atmosphere is very hip, and the staff is very friendly. The food is ALWAYS delicious!!!

This place is very different than I pictured.. I found it a couple days ago & hesitated trying it but I sure am glad I did! They have a wide variety on the menu ranging from brunch available all day to pork loin to meatloaf to salmon to dinner omelets! The staff was very polite and attentive and I got my food in under 10 minutes! The only thing I don't like about this place is that it is not in my hometown!

A rainy day dinner at my best friends favorite spot for his birthday dinner! Due to steady rain, the atmosphere was quiet but still homey. This family style diner with a contemporary twist brings new and old together both in their decor and their menu. For our small group of nine, which included some Nordic visitors, there was no small variance in our orders. Each of our nine orders came together and without error. Refills on our drinks were timely and our time pleasant with even birthday wishes for our guest of honor. A great time at a quality place for a good meal.

My family and I are currently eating here and we were very disturbed when one of the owners I beleive (he was older looking in thick rimmed glasses) grabbed another employee by her arm very forcibly and continued to yell at her behind the bar. We saw her walk back and she was complaining about her arm hurting. I do not appreciate seeing employees treated like this and seeing harrasment when all we are trying to do is have a nice meal. The people eating around us were also disturbed and noticed it too. Very unprofessional and un called for.

I had heard good things about Dixie Quicks, so I was excited to check it out. The staff was pretty nice. The menu was a little strange, having it all on the wall, but whatever... it adds to the quirky feel they are shooting for. The server told me they had the best eggs benedict in the Omaha area. I'm a sucker for some good eggs benedict, so that's what I went with. It wasn't bad, but it was probably the least favorite eggs benedict I've ever had. It's ok, I'd eat there again if I was in the area, but I definitely wouldn't go out of my way to eat there.

Glistening ribbons of perfectly smoked and sauced brisket accompanied by grits and brussels sprouts. The menu has lots of other stuff I'd love to try. Great atmosphere and friendly service. Hope to return some day!

Oh oh oh oh oh oh. You don't have to go... Ok enough Led Zeppelin for now because you most definitely need to go to Dixie Quicks. I'm not sure why it took me so long to come have brunch at this quirky, Venus-flytrap in the corner, spot. The food was comforting and delicious. Since I eat more than most per sitting, I opted for the French toast. Now, you could just get regular OR you can add some flair. I went for the latter in the form of Sexual Chocolate. Walnuts, slices of banana, chocolate chips and a little chocolate drizzle. OMG! This would be plenty for nearly everyone I know. I also had the chicken and feta omelette. Different than I expected since it came with some salsa inside as well but if that was a mistake, it's a mistake I want them to make each time. Service, atmosphere and deco was great. Tables are a little close together at times but I didn't feel overwhelmed by other conversations. All in all, you need to check this place out!!

Great place for breakfast/brunch! It is connected to a gallery and mini thrift shop. The mini thrift shop is a bit pricey but has some cool things. The gallery isn't huge but has some good pieces now and then. The food here is fantastic and the ambiance is comfortable. I am only giving them 4 as they are not that great with substitutions (I wanted scrambled eggs instead of poached, and sometimes they will do it and sometimes they won't. consistency please!). Sensual chocolate french toast are Dixie scramble and solid choices!

During a recent road trip we happened upon the town of Council Bluffs, Iowa which is the county seat of Pottawattamie County. However, I want you to read the county as "part of want of me" wants a beverage and lunch. Which brings me to Dixie Quicks. We drove into Council Bluffs and found a great parking spot on their main drag (cute historic downtown). Grabbed the dog out the truck and headed towards what we hoped would be a dog friendly restaurant for lunch. We walked to Dixie Quicks (good reviews on Yelp) and asked if they allow dogs on their patio. Affirmative. Which was great because the little woof had already flopped underneath one of the tables. Our server was sweet, funny and kind. She was very conscientious of the pup providing water immediately. Puppy dog took to her immediately. We started with an absolutely delicious crab cake (6 oz.). Should have ordered two. I had the spicy steak salad and my friend had the grilled vegetable salad. Both were great. They have a full bar which is always fun. I had a delightfully spicy tequila cocktail. Maybe a bit too spicy for me but friend liked mine enough to get her own. Really enjoyed our lunch. Highly recommended!

On a first visit to Council Bluffs, this restaurant was recommended, and it was excellent. Both the Chicken Fried Steak that I had, and the Meatloaf my friend had, were near perfect. And the service was great!

Pretty good, but nothing to rave about. After seeing other yelp reviews, we made a reservation and were glad we did- it would have been an hour wait otherwise. The service was timely and I was satisfied with it. I was considering eggs Benedict, but they were out so I got the espresso eggs instead ($9). It was very difficult to get the lid off of the little pot it was served in (I held the sides of the dish down while my boyfriend tried lifting the lid and using a knife to get some leverage), but once I got into it, it was good. A fluffy, soufflé-like dish, it comes made with your choice of goat cheese. I chose lemon verbena flavor, which was yummy but there was either not much of it in there, or it blended so well with the cream and eggs that I could barely taste it. I am a huge cheese-lover and goat cheese is my favorite. So I would have wanted more cheese. I got a side of tropical fruit and toast. The fruit mix was a refreshing change from the usual fruit cup, but it was mostly canned pineapple and there was one piece of fruit that looked really disgusting. I THINK was a banana. (See photos.) Usually at breakfast restaurants, I am way too full to eat the toast by the time I finish my meal, but the portion was small enough that I ate it. Ray (my boyfriend) got the poached salmon and caper omelette with goat cheese ($13) and said that the ingredients were mostly good, but the omelette was slightly overcooked. He had a biscuit and potatoes as sides, and like many other reviews, we were disappointed to be served cold potatoes. 10 seconds in a microwave would have done wonders for a pile of cold potatoes, but alas, that's too much effort. Overall, it wasn't a bad experience, but I probably won't come back. The art gallery attached had some great art, and the decor in Dixie Quicks was a mix of vintage photos and modern art. I wish I had gotten the sexual chocolate French toast and Ray thinks maybe the biscuits and gravy would have been harder to mess up. The whole time, we were thinking that we should have gone to the Leavenworth Cafe for brunch instead for better food at a cheaper price.

Hip, artsy environment in a historic strip of businesses. Good menu with a variety of tastie option. My one pet peeve is that they don't have printed menus. The extensive menus is on a calk board on the way which hangs- not over the counter- but over some tables. So you have to get up and go over to read the menu river someone who is having dinner and the go back to you table where the waiter takes your order. I could understand the chalk board if you ordered at the counter- but you don't, so it's weird.

DD&D got me to go here - had to try it after watching the episode a mere week before visiting. I had the chilaquiles, I hear it is their hallmark dish, and, I have to agree. Tender pork, nice and spicy sauce.... quite filling with the appropriate amount of burn in the belly. I'd go back again in a heartbeat. Ya feel me?

Bottom Line - This place is cute! The food isn't all that fantastic (based on what we got). I expected really good homestyle brunch items, but thought the execution of the dishes to be a bit less than stellar. I'm on the fence on whether or not I'd come back, or to research other places next time. I came with a friend for brunch on Sunday, 2 Dec 2012, and we ordered the following: Poached salmon omelette ($13.00) - My friend got this and she thought it was alright, except the "homestyle" potatoes were mushy... they lacked the crispiness that you'd expect. Chicken fried steak and eggs ($11.00) - I ordered this thinking, "ooooh, I'm in the midwest and I'm going to order this country-style breakfast!" But this dish wasn't as good as the ones I've had on the west coast in Portland and Seattle.... I thought the gravy was seriously lacking in flavour, as well as the steak itself (I think the breading didn't have any salt or other spices in it, to boot). My potatoes were also pretty bad. I probably wouldn't order this again. Along with two lattes ($3.95 each; and they do NOT have soy milk), tax of $2.23 and tip of $6.00, our total came to $40.13 for our table of 2. On a side note, when I walked back to use the washroom, I noticed that the breakfast potatoes were all mass-cooked and in a buffet-style serving tray covered with aluminum foil. As dishes were made, the servers would spoon some potatoes onto the plate. This would explain why the potatoes were not hot, not crispy and were instead soggy..... ugh.

Time and energy saver tip... Do not come on Sunday after 10:30. They get overwhelmed by the church crowd, wait times get longer, food quality goes down and in general the experience is not great. I have been to this restaurant many times. I would give them a five but sometimes the person you check in with when you arrive could have a better attitude. This restaurant/gallery is fun, unique and very refreshingly not a chain. The breakfast is great. The eggs always taste so fresh and the sexual chocolate or tropical fruit waffles are the best indulgence you could make! Dinner is a bit more pricey and when I went I was not super impressed. My meal was expensive and bland despite the use of hip new creative ingredients. So go for breakfast (make a reservation unless you plan on going the moment they open on Sunday) but skip dinner. :)

It's a fun, quirky place to eat. The food was good with some creative flair. I had the Expresso eggs with lemon verbena goat cheese. The lightest, fluffiest eggs I've ever had! I could not taste any goat cheese or lemon verbena though. And I have pretty good taste buds. The kids had the French toast- very creative and tasty. My only meh was that you had to stand in front of a board in the middle of the restaurant to figure out what to order. That's their menu style.

Was staying in Council Bluffs for a few weeks. This place is an out and out gem!!! Really cute place, great service, great music, great drinks selection and great food. Best fried green tomatoes Ive ever had...how can Brussels sprouts be so so good? Catfish was fabulous. Love it! I wish I lived closer!

Sexual chocolate french toast. Did that get your attention? Funny names aside, this place actually has pretty good food. A friend ordered the berry french toast and those berries looked pretty darn delish. My SCFT was pretty epic as well. I also like the fact that this isn't only a restaurant but also has a tiny art gallery/store connected to it. I think this is what makes it special to me because there aren't many places like this in Omaha. The only thing that sort of creeped me out was the restrooms, where the sinks are outside and communal. Not a huge deal, but just sort of weird washing your hands next to someone of the opposite sex, not something I'm used to in a restaurant bathroom setting.

What a delicious meal! The staff was very engaging and helpful. Very friendly with tops on customer service. The menu is on a big black board which is a little overwhelming to navigate through, your eyes want to go everywhere. However, the staff ce over to provide guidance and suggestions if interested. We got the oatmeal and icecream. Best oatmeal I have ever eaten and what a great combination with the icecream. We also have the French toast with berries. Again, nailed it! Lastly, per the staff recommendation we got the Dixie scramble and decide to go with Salmon. It was a delicious mix of flavors in the mouth. I would definitely recommend to anyone. Such a creative dining experience.

Great atmosphere and nice wine selection for a casual restaurant. I ordered the pasta with prosciutto and asparagus. It had a cream sauce with no flavor so I has to douse it with salt and pepper. The waitress also forgot my side and brought it 5 mins later. They also ran out of dessert and were offering French toast as dessert. If I go back, I will stick to comfort food like meatloaf and breakfast items.

I love Dixie Quicks! The owner is so nice, down to Earth, and welcoming. He's made us feel like we were his personal guests each time we've eaten there. While I'm bummed Dixie Quicks is no longer in downtown Omaha, the delicious food is more than worth the ten minute drive to Council Bluffs. The food is fresh and so inventive. I love the chocolate french toast. Heaven.

My momma taught me to never leave food on the table. Starving children in Africa. Hence the motto: do it for the kids! But I just couldn't do it here at Dixie Quicks. Their Country Fried Steak was truly that atrocious -- soggy breading and super tough meat. Along with the steak, I received grits and Brussels sprouts, which were alright, but that does not justify spending $10 on breakfast. I cannot recommend getting their country fried steak, but can easily commend them on their delicious Chicken Quesadilla, friendly hipster waitstaff, and their unique decorations (we got to sit next to an Audrey II lookalike from Little Shop of Horrors).

I'm not sure what was going on at this establishment today. They were pretty much out of everything! Out of eggs benedict, salmon, bacon and French fries! and they also took forever. We placed our orders and had fries as our sides. When the dishes finally came out to our table almost an hour later. We received different sides because they were out of fries. They did not inform us upon ordering that they were out of fries. Instead of coming to consulate with us on substituting our sides they took it upon themselves to replace our sides with whatever they wanted or actually with whatever they could scrap up in their kitchen. It seems to me like this was a restaurant without food if that makes sense. They also all of sudden mysteriously had bacon because it ended up on my plate by mistake. I'm not sure how this joint ended up on diners drive ins and dives cause it's not all that!! The owner was also kind of rude and argumentative. Dude its not my fault you can't manage your restaurant and your out of everything!!! #getittogether!!! He did however comp our meal because he could tell we were beyond dissatisfied with our meal and upset that they would substitute our sides without even asking!! All in all I probably would not come back to this joint.

Walked in and the greeter was rude. Cool atmosphere but the absolute worst chicken fried steak ever.

Food was ok. Manager was very friendly. But out waiter seemed new and not with it. We waited over 30 minutes for him just to take our order, and never came by to see if we needed anything. We have a very small child and it's difficult to keep him happy when we go out to eat. So needless to say we were far from satisfied with our experience and will likely not return. Very disappointed because we had heard good things.

Fantastic food and friendly staff. The atmosphere was really inviting. Wait staff seemed a bit slow at first, with seating and drinks but the food came out quickly. The food was delicious; I had the roasted Pork loin in BBQ sauce.

I have to dock a star based on our recent brunch experience... I'd be lying if I said that the move to CB doesn't act as somewhat of a deterrent for us coming here, but when we planned this trip I was really looking forward to it. Obviously we made a reservation (group of 7) and arrived a little early. Seating was on time, but then the pace of the meal took a huge nosedive. While our reservation was for 11am, we were still sitting around our table without food at noon. And while I can't say for certain, I suspected that a couple tables seated after us got their food sooner. Is this attributable to a mix-up in the kitchen that caused my food to be hot and several other's food to be lukewarm at best? (I was happy with my meal on this trip also, but some others expressed severe disappointment.) Or could it have something to do with the fact that our original sever somehow disappeared? Who knows... What I do know is that to make the trip across the river worthwhile it really has to be something exceptional, and while DQ is definitely special, I don't think it's worth passing by no less than 3 of my other favorite brunch spots to get here and deal with the craziness.

Omahalandia: The Brunch Special This is where the hipsters in the Midwest go to eat brunch. This place is literally half restaurant and half modernist, abstract, surrealist art museum. Instead of menus, they just write what food they serve on a wall and you pick what you want then sit down. I got the BBQ beef brisket hash which comes with hash potators and 2 eggs, and it was goooood. I also tried the sexual chocolate french toast and that lived up to its name because I mouthgasmed...burp.

My brother randomly found this place while I was visiting him and attending a CrossFit competition this weekend and I already can't wait to go back. The menu was awesome, the staff was super friendly and engaged, and the eclectic style and gallery/vintage flair is just plain neat. I hope I get time to browse next time. Service was fast and friendly (we only had an hour) and the food was super tasty. If I go back, I'm DEFINITELY getting the Sexual Chocolate French toast. I was staring a little too intently at it at someone else's table. Hopefully they didn't mind.

Dixie quicks is fast becoming one of my go to brunch spots. The food is excellent and the service is friendly and fast. Don't forget to make reservation if you are going there for Sunday brunch...otherwise you're in for a long wait. I'll definitely be back.

The staff is perfect for this type of place. Great service, witty comebacks, perfectly timed jokes. The food keeps up with the personality and quality of the service as well. I had the Eggs Benedict and it was amazing. I definitely will be coming back!

We went here for a Sunday brunch with a party of twelve and for most of us, it was our first time here. The service was great. Our waiter was constantly checking on us but not bothersome and was very friendly. We all got different items from the chalkboard menu and everything was really good. They brought the wrong kind of french toast initially for one person in our party, so they gave us both portions. The old building was restored well and had a lot of character. Loved it! I'll be back the next time I visit C.B.

Super service and delicious lunch. Picadillo is a rich red chili stew. The chicken quesadilla had a nicely grilled tortilla stuffed w grilled chicken and lots of cheese. Our waiter has a superb sense of humor.

Came here for Saturday brunch after a party to continue the festivities. We knew it would be busy so we made reservations for 12pm. Little did we know that reservations mean nothing here. We waited an hour to be seated, then another 45 minutes for our food to arrive. (I was quite upset since we were all hungover and wanted food... 2 hours ago). Our waiter suggested various drink options and mimosa while we waited for our food, so we each ordered a couple of them(...don't judge, we had a long wait okay?!). I was a bit surprised because my mimosas were $9 each, and probably wouldn't have gotten them if i knew that piece of information beforehand. Overall, their food was pretty good, but nothing astronomically amazing and worth waiting 2 hours for. Sorry, but I will not be visiting this establishment anytime soon.

We chose Dixie Quick's based on its extensive vegetarian menu and we were extremely pleased with both the level of service and the quality of food. I had the Dixie Scramble with sausage, an English muffin with sausage on each half, then topped with scrambled eggs and their signature tomato butter, which is absolutely worth the trip by itself. My vegetarian wife had the plain chilaquiles, which she loved as well. We found a lot of items on the menu that we wanted to try and we will definitely be back. This is the best restaurant I've eaten at in Council Bluffs.

I was very impressed with the breakfast menu. This hidden gem has perhaps the best breakfast in the metro area. It was tough making a decision on what to get because every plate on the other tables looked delicious. I also recently had lunch here and it was very good too. I'm impressed with the quality of the food. The food and service is great and the place is very clean and professional.

Stopped in on a Tuesday for lunch with the Mrs. Had a hard time deciding what I wanted - the menu had a lot of great choices. I ended up going with the Blackened Salmon with Home Fries & Brussels Sprouts. I think I made the right choice. Salmon was spicy and perfectly crusted, not to mention it was perfectly fresh. I tend to avoid fish items at most restaurants because it's usually cooked from frozen -- not a fan. Fortunately Dixie Quicks prides themselves on creating new menu items daily based on what kinds of fresh produce, meats and fish they can get their hands on. I wish more restaurants did this. And two good-sized filets of fresh salmon and a mountainous portion of French Toast (for my wife) with a can of Diet Coke for $20??? Beyond worth it. Service was *very* friendly, efficient and attentive. Even from servers who weren't assigned to us. Décor and ambiance were top notch, and the restaurant was moderately busy for 11:30 a.m. on a Tuesday. Be sure to make a reservation even for lunch or breakfast...when we arrived someone had taken ours! Fortunately we were seated right away, although I was hoping to find out who posed as us. Definitely going back. And hopefully soon.

Dixie Quicks hosted my wedding, and in the year leading up, I think we ate there approximately 15 times. :) Every time we go, our servers are friendly and the food is great. I think we've spanned the available times, and probably a good portion of the menu as well. The space was perfect for our wedding. Rene knows what he is doing when it comes to planning events, and calmed any fears I may have had. Rob was willing to DJ, which took the heat off of me to find someone :) and he did a fantastic job. Rene worked with us to create a truly magical evening. The food was amazing, drinks plentiful, and the service impeccable. As with any wedding, there were minor things my wife & I would change, but overall, Dixie Quicks was fantastic. We received lots of compliments from CB-expats who had no idea Council Bluffs had this hidden gem, so we are happy we were able to share this place with so many on such a memorable occasion.

I was actually pretty excited to go to this place because the reviews were good and it was on diners, drive-ins, and dives. I usually find those shows do a pretty good job of finding good restaurants. I went on a Saturday morning for brunch, because I had heard just how good the french toast was. We made reservations and got right in. After that you look on the wall for the menu. I ordered their french toast with bananas, chocolate chips, and chocolate syrup on them. I also ordered biscuits and gravy. I love biscuits and gravy. Immediately I was annoyed that they give soda by the can, which means you get charged for every refill. This is NOT Europe... :-( The expectation for me is that the food should take about 20 minutes to cook for breakfast. I don't think that is too out of line. Well... We waited for 45 minutes, at which point we started to get nervous as my aunt had to catch a plane. Finally after ten more minutes, we told our waitress we needed to leave pretty quick. Somehow the food was magically done within a few minutes. For me the bummer was that my french toast was cold, it had to have been done for a while and the biscuits and gravy was NOT homemade. I could go to 7-11 and get better biscuits and gravy. We did have some people in our group that got the eggs benedict and loved them. Overall, it was ok, but I probably would not go back here.

Fifth visit, third time for Sunday brunch.. We can now confirm that no matter what, you will wait for a table. Our 11:30am was honored only 10 minutes late this time. Not bad, except the hostess did tell us when we arrived 15 minutes early that we'd be seated on time.. She blamed "the waiters are behind." Service was slow (it always is) and the food (huevos rancheros, eggs benedict, chicken fried chicken, sexual chocolate French toast) was great. We will return.

This is a great place for Sunday brunch. Personal favorites are the french toast (with sexual chocolate or mixed berries). Their Mexican breakfast items are always good too if you want something savory. And...always wash it down with one of their Mimosas! (several favors available).

First impression walking in the door was that the building has that old, nasty, musty smell...I should have just turned around at that point, but I wanted to give Dixie Quicks a try since everyone seems to rave about it. I came in for lunch, was seated quickly. The menu is a on huge chalkboard, and I had to get up from my table and stand in the middle of the room to read it. I decided on the pasta with prosciutto and asparagus, and gave my order to the server. She told me I got a side with it, and rather than getting up (again) and walking to the chalkboard, I asked what my choices were. She rattled off two (Brussels sprouts and something else), then said "collard greens, but no one likes them" and stood there, obviously expecting me to pick from that limited list (or get up and look at the board). I asked for Brussels sprouts, which I generally like as long as they're cooked right. My pasta and side arrived quickly enough. The pasta was meh - didn't taste like fresh cream sauce, and some of the asparagus was woody. The Brussels sprouts were horrible. Mushy, tasted like they'd boiled the heck out of them and then just dropped them in a steam table to stay warm. No seasoning, no butter or other flavoring at all. All in all, it's a hipster-themed place that just doesn't quite cut it. Based on the horrible smell, meh food and service, I think I've made my last trip to Dixie Quicks.

I've never felt so compelled to write a review for a business until now. My husband, daughter and I came in for the first time for a late brunch. Our daughter was extremely cranky, and we almost left before we even sat down. My worst nightmare is dining with our daughter when she's throwing a fit. Our server (I can't remember his name for the life of me, but tall, blonde gentleman) was extremely kind and patient, even though our daughter was screaming the whole time we were trying to order. An older man came to the table with dinosaurs for my daughter to play with, but she wasn't having it. She wanted a princess toy, so the man went & found her a porcelain lady figurine and she stopped crying. Our food came out shortly after, which was delicious. The Brie & Fuji Apple omelette was wonderful. As someone who has been in the service industry for many years, I can say that the service was way above and beyond. They made our lives so much easier and enjoyable for that hour just by being understanding and patient with us. Thank you, thank you! We will be back over and over again.

I went here for lunch with a co-worker, shortly after moving to Omaha. Loved it! Loved the quirky decor. Loved the super friendly waitstaff. Table seems clean, didn't see the restrooms. I had the chiliquiles (spelling?). Pretty good, but the black beans they served with them were oddly cold and had cheese thrown on it that totally didn't melt. I didn't send them back, but I definitely didn't eat them. But, the rest of the food on my plate and on my dining partner's plate made up for the cold beans. Would go again.

In Omaha for the CWS, I went straight from the airport to Dixie Quicks for brunch on Sunday. The restaurant is very attractive and the food (I had the Dixie Scramble) was amazing. Couldn't believe I was lucky enough to find this place. My only complaint is they're only open for brunch on Sunday and closed on Monday, so I only got to eat there once.

I enjoyed a birthday brunch here, and the berry-loaded french toast I ate was like the best birthday present ever. My husband ordered the brisket hash, which these two brisket-loving Texans gave an A+. The atmosphere is great. The service is lovely. The free cupcake on the way out the door was icing on the (cup)cake for me. We look forward to trying another meal here, and several trips back for brunch.

Very good- especially the chilaquiles! The best I have had. The other omelet we had was just ok. Good coffee. Definitely coming back here.

Awesome! Sunday brunch. Prices were on point. This is not the village inn people. Very cute lil place. Made reservations but not sure I really needed them for brunch. Poached salmon and chevre goat cheese omelet with capers. 4.5 Chillaques with carnitas. 4.0 French toast with wild berries. 4.5 Breakfast quesadilla. 4.0 Will be back to try their dinner. Who knew there was a great place on the other side of the river?

If you find yourself in Council Bluffs, Iowa, not sure why you would but just in case you take the wrong exit off I-29 or I-480, this is the best food in CB. Brunch is quite good, especially the Mexican dishes. Excellent service and two owners who really know the hospitality business!

It is a quirky place where the staff is friendly and attentive and the menu has something for everyone. I went there with my sisters the first time and my sister and daughter the 2nd time around. My daughter had the omelet but didn't realize it had goat cheese in her selection. She found out she does not like goat cheese, so beware those who discriminate against goats!

The food here is fantastic. The Egg's benedict and salmon benedict were great. It would have been a five star experience if not for the service, lack of parking, and no menus.

My uncle brought me here for brunch on my birthday. After hearing such amazing things about this place, I was really excited to try it out! Unfortunately, it was a HUGE let-down. First, the server we had was EXTREMELY rude. Every question I asked him about the food was met with him sighing, rolling his eyes and telling me that it's all on the board (none of the questions I asked were answered by the all-powerful board he kept pointing me to). Second, the food was really disappointing. I ordered the chocolate french toast, and it was just so-so. It tasted burned around the edges and was cold in the middle. Given the server's response to all of my other questions, I simply sucked it up and ate what I could. Rude service, crummy food... I will not be coming back here again!

My wife and I checked out the recently re-located Dixie Quicks in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Upon arrival, our initial impression was that the atmosphere is somewhat eclectic with doors hanging from the ceiling and other interesting lighting. The menu is written on a large blackboard. We waited several minutes for a waiter or waitress to come get our drink orders, but once that was complete, we had great and attentive service throughout the rest of the meal. The wine list is not overly large, but we found a nice Pinot Gris from the Alsace Region of France to pair with our meal. Not too sweet or too dry..just right. Our entrees were red beans and rice and bowtie pasta with cajun chicken. Both had a good spicy taste. You receive a side with each meal and we had a creamy cheese zucchini and collard greens. Zucchini was good and collard greens were pretty well seasoned. The salad that comes with the meal is served with an ancho chile vinaigrette house dressing. Dessert menu was limited and had two choices; a chocolate mousse cupcake and a cinnamon cheesecake. The chocolate mousse cupcake was large and was okay with the top of the cake being a bit dry. The cinnamon cheesecake was absolutely delicious and addictive....only one problem....it was too small a portion...seriously, it was too small, but it was so good I was tempted to order a 2nd one. Food is medium priced. Overall a good experience and one we would be willing to drive across the border from Nebraska to do again.

Went for the eggs benedict and didn't dissapoint! Their new location is much larger than their previous location, and the decor is artsy and interesting! Went for a Sunday brunch with 3 others. Had reservations as they are sticklers for reservations. Our service was prompt and friendly. They were recently voted for the best eggs benedict by the Omaha World Herald. I would have to agree. I love eggs benedict but often times they are not very tasty. Dixie Quick's were perfect...all flavors blended together for the perfect little Benedict party in your mouth! I just wish they served regular hash browns instead of the breakfast potatoes. I find the breakfast potatoes very bland and the "tropical fruit" served on the side was a bit dried out...not very tropical in my opinion. The others in my group ordered different entrees and enjoyed their meals as well. If you're a benedict lover what's the wait? Give DQ's a try! PS: They are now serving brunch Mon-Fri all day until close! Hope that continues!

Plenty of variety on the brunch menu, and the food was fun and tasty. Only complaint is that the fruit that came with my son's and my wife's meals was not fresh and probably came from a can. It seemed like a contradiction compared to the rest of the meal. The attached art gallery added to the enjoyment of our visit.

Friday dinner with a couple friends and their 2-year-old. We were a little apprehensive at first because the website said we needed reservations so thought it might be super uppity if he got a little cranky. Boy, were we wrong! The waitstaff and owners...everyone in the place was extra friendly. The owners even came out to talk to us. The food was PHENOMENAL!!! We had chilaquiles, the blackened salmon & a ravioli special. Everyone raved about the food. The only thing that was sort of +/- was the zucchini. But that maybe just because it had a strange texture. I ogled the dishes that other patrons had and they all looked as good or better than ours. A group next to us had the fried chicken...that will definitely be in the line up for future visits. The prices were good too. Around $45 for dinner, 2 specialty beers/each for a couple. This place is what it claims to be...uniquely delicious home-cooking-inspired food in a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. I will definitely be back...can't wait to try BRUNCH!!!!

Won't be back. Don't get me wrong, the food is good, but when the manager is constantly yelling at his staff in front of customers, it tells me he has no respect for the people working for him. This is the second time in a row. Went for dinner on Valentines day and our server was pretty much non existant. Took her over 15 minutes after placing our order for a beer before she actually brought it out. Had she been busy, that would have been a different story, ( He never once said a word to her about her service) The restaurant was not crowded at 6:30. The poor server named Steve should have walked out. We watched him work and he was very busy, had a great rapport with his customers and hustled. God forbid he forgot to get one customer their dry day old corn bread and all you could here was Rene yelling: Steve i need to talk to you. Steve was explaing the menu to another table and when he didn't drop everything at that second, you could hear Rene walking back thru the bar/ kitchen area, yelling louder: Steve I need to talk to you. STEVE, I NEED TO TALK TO YOU" What an ass. The last time we were there he was berating a server right in the bar area. He needs to respect his staff as much as respects the food he serves. It is very uncomfortable for his guests to hear his little tirades. You reap what you sow My Orduna.

Went for lunch. Ordered the piccadillo asada. It came very quickly and was served with black beans, zucchini and cheese, and a tortilla. All the food was cooked to perfection, but was universally under seasoned. I'd advise getting a table away from the menu board unless you like an audience while you eat. Service was great. I'll go back, but will order another dish.

Started going here when it was over in Omaha and I think it got better when it came over to Council Bluffs. Blackened Salmon is great. They serve it with a Tomato/Butter Sauce that is delicious. Breakfast is very good as well. My only complaint would be the chalkboard menu, I think it's cool but unless you are a regular and know what you are going to get it can be a pain to stand there and read it. I wish that had a small menu to hand out for those that prefer not to stand and read the menu

After seeing Dixie Quick's tomato butter on an episode of Diners, Drive in's and dives, I knew I was sold. The moment we walked in the door, we were greeted with friendly employees ready to make our dining experience amazing. The restaurant was covered in paintings throughout the walls and very eclectic. Great 80's music playing in the background and my husband and I found ourselves singing several different times. Our waiter was very helpful letting us know what are some of the top items, my husband ordered one of them and I the other. The ham and asparagus omlet arrived hot and fluffy. My first bite was egg only, but the wonderful asparagus taste was throughout. Getting to the asparagus and the ham were the best parts of the meal. The omlet was tasty, filling, let not as "heavy" as other omlets could be. My husband ordered the dixie scramble with sausage and bacon. His plate arrived looking beautiful with the tomato butter spread all perfectly on the top. We were both hooked on the first bite. The sausage was flavorful and thick enough that it kept everything from falling apart with each bite. The bacon was crispy and very flavorful. An amazing experience. Our meals also came with grits, toast, and a fruit cup which were as tasteful as our meal. Too bad I don't live closer, I could eat there every weekend!!

The Restaurant itself is very cute and the staff was nice but the food was over priced and not very good. my partner had the " special herb and lemon chicken" . It was a terrible, pail looking chicken in a soup of oil and lemon juice. His sides also seemed like they had been sitting around for a while. I had a veggie melt which came on what looked like sarah lee bread and was soggy. The friend green tomatoes were alright. Im giving it two stars for the very nice older gentleman who helped us to our table .

Having only lived in major cities, I'm ashamed to admit that I have a bit of restaurant snobbery in me. That said, I was quite impressed by Dixie Quicks. During our cross country driving trip, my partner and I needed to stop somewhere for a quick bite. I founded Dixie Quicks listed on one of my preferred food blogs. I have never seen the infamous episode of Diner, Drive-Ins, & Dives, but apparently Guy Fieri also helped popularize this establishment. They are by no means a "dive." In fact, I will bet that it's the most trendy spot in town. Based on the SoHo loft-like space coupled with the contemporary art graffitied throughout the restaurant and gallery, you would have thought you were dining in a New York City restaurant (not to say that the industry in NYC is the only standard by which restaurants can be measured). We weren't hungry, but we wanted to make sure we had some food in our stomach because by the time we arrived at our destination in Nebraska we presumed every place would have closed. We shared a bowl of chicken tortilla soup and an appetizer of chicken quesadillas. Holy moly, was the food good! I haven't had avocado that fresh in years.

I would NEVER have expected to find a place like this in Council Bluffs. I suppose I had some type of preconceived notion about the poor place! The downtown definitely has a kitchy, big city feel with Dixie Quicks. I didn't find out until later as well that it was actually on Diners, Drive Ins and Dives - an added bonus as I like to catch those places along my travels as well. First off - I'd recommend the Salmon Eggs Benedict - so great - creamy and delicious! Also the Chillaques was appreciated and devoured quickly. The kids got the chicken quesadilla and it was quite cool that they actually took a thin slice of chicken breast to fill the tortilla rather the slices of chicken which always seem to pop out as you eat - thought that was creative. Cornbread was very moist and wonderful - wasn't overly cornbready tasting, but just light. Now - I have to admit I was a little fearful as I really wanted to try the place but there were comments about reservations and rude staff, etc. I thought I might have to sacrifice for an experience. I did not.... It was a great experience. We did make a reservation as there were 7 of us. When we got there, the place was a lot bigger than I had prepared myself for based on Yelp comments. Also - there really weren't a ton of people there so we could have walked in probably. I suppose on weekends and such, I'd just call and put my name in anyways to be on the safe side. We were welcomed wonderfully and our waiter was very pleasant and down to earth. Explained the menu very well and added a touch of humor. Was attentive and very friendly with us - nothing bad to say. As for their chalkboard thing. I'll admit - I've never LIVED in New York, but I'm there quite often. Apparently this chalkboard menu is based on what a lot of New York restaurants do. I've hit a few of those, but I wouldn't say its an over-riding theme in New York. They do have menus there that you can actually touch and sit at your table and leisurely decide. Here's the problem with the chalkboard, Dixie Quicks... Love the concept! Its fun and different and unique - however, please consider offering an option as you've got so many delicious things on your menu and its SOOOO difficult to decide that I stood up there forever just trying to decipher and chose and, I must admit, I ended up deciding just because I felt awkward and guilty for standing up there so long when other people were trying to get in to see the menu as well. I ended up going back to the table and bringing up the menu on my phone and trying to really decide from there, but the menu on the website was slightly different than what was posted on the board. Long and short - I think you're selling yourself short by only having the chalkboard. I honestly am a greedy orderer when it comes to trying things and I probably would have ordered a couple other things if I would have it had it in my hand in front of me. Either that or - shorten your menu so its easier to read and easier to decide. Besides that - again - loved everything! I was going to come back this morning for breakfast as I had some time before my appt (Thursday), but was disappointed that the place doesn't open until 11. Maybe another time I'm in town. Oh - that being said - I LOVE breakfast and brunch foods - Dixie Quicks serves that all day as well! :) Plus!

I wanted to give this place 5 stars so bad. The staff is friendly and accommodating, and the food is SOOOOOOOOOO good! It does seem to take them a little longer than other places, but they're always packed, plus the food is so yummy that it's worth the wait. The menu items are innovative, and the cooks give their full attention to the slightest detail. It's obvious that a lot of thought and care goes into cooking the food. And the food is very affordable - you definitely get a lot of "bang for your buck." They also have some great vegetarian dishes - that's refreshing. Dixie Quick's is just what Council Bluffs needed! There's an art gallery attached to the restaurant, so if you have to wait for your table, you can walk around the gallery and look at the art. I love that! Just two gripes that kept me from going the full 5 stars: 1) There are no "hand-out" menus; the menu is written on a chalkboard on the wall. I don't really mind that so much (Cellar 19, another great CB spot, is the same way). But the chalkboard is placed right over a table in the dining room, so if you want to go look at the menu, you have to stand there awkwardly invading the personal space of the people sitting at that table, plus you're standing in a high traffic area, so you have to keep saying "Excuse me" and "Sorry" and moving out of servers' ways while you're trying to look at the menu. I don't understand why they don't just do paper hand-out menus, especially since a server comes to your table to get your order. It seems like it would be a really easy thing to do. 2) They don't do separate checks. It's posted everywhere in the restaurant, so it shouldn't come as a surprise. Still, it's really annoying. I think any restaurant that refuses to do separate checks should have an ATM, but Dixie Quick's doesn't. So if you go there with a group of people, I guess you should either all bring cash or checks or just have one person put it on their card and pay that person back. The first time I ate at Dixie Quick's, I was with a group of 5 people and none of us knew beforehand that they don't do separate checks. Most of us didn't have cash, and some people didn't even have checkbooks - they only had credit cards. One of the people I was with made such a fuss that in the end they wound up splitting our check, but they were extremely reluctant to do it. I don't really understand why they don't want to do it. Not that I've ever worked in the restaurant business, but other restaurants seem to do it okay.

Overall (8/10) Food (9/10) Atmosphere (7/10) Price (7/10) I like this place. New location, although in CB, is nicer than the old location in Omaha. What I like... of course the chocolate french toast! Also, the salmon Benedict was awesome. The inside is artsy, the only thing I kinda like/hate is the menu on the wall. My vision is not awesome and I have to stand pretty close to see the menu, not really great when you have a group of people. But it is also nice touch. I'm torn between liking and hating it. I think I need to come back and try some lunch to give a full review, but for now, I like it. Will I be back? fosho

The new digs and art gallery are very nice. They may lack the gritty ambiance of the old location, but the food is just as good and the service may be better. They are better staffed in the kitchen and the front of the house. The chalkboard menu remains. It is only awkward to peruse if you are dyslexic or a hermit. Read that sucker from top to bottom. Say high to another nearby diner and ask what they are eating. It is a conversational thing... have fun with it. Or you can go elsewhere, which, my friends, would be a mistake. My boss had the salmon, which I recommended and it rocked his world. It will rock yours, too... if you like salmon. The blackened seasoning recipe is published and since eating here about two years ago it is all I use at home now. They have the little dipper of tomato butter to tame the spice, too. You will need more because you will love it, I promise. Hint: Dip the cornbread in it! : ) Most of the veggies are good stuff. Go with what you like and you should be fine. Don't expect miraculous things out of black beans or black eyed peas. They are good, but they will not make you orgasmic like, say... the chilaquiles. Their take of this peasant Mexican dish was a stunner. Tortilla chips soaked in heavenly chipotle/kale chili sauce and topped with a poached egg. So take note... spicy salty peppers, earthy kale, rich egg. You see the balance? Doesn't matter. You will taste it. The wines here are picked for flavor and value. The limited selection had a Aussie Shiraz from a Barossa producer for $24 a bottle. Done. Delicious. That is just awesome! Just remember they really cook here. You don't get a bag of salt cured crud reheated in boiling water and made pretty for your plate. This is for real. They also try to twist things a little. Sometimes that works, sometimes not. You like that boiled bag better? Have at it, chief! Not me. Finally a detail to note. Don't park in other businesses private lots down here in CB. They will have a cow and then have you towed. Park one block away off Vine or in the lot off Pierce to the Northeast when it gets crowded.

The food, atmosphere and service get a 5 but the strict reservations rules take one away. (On their website the "rules" section reads like a warning label) Uninviting and bossy is not the best first impression to make but once you actually get to the place the character starts to kick in. Everything about this place is unique in a "first time at jimmy johns" sort of way; There is a funny and charming way to order, an energetic, creative wait staff, distractingly entertaining decor and inspired food you won't find anywhere else in the Omaha. The coffee is perfect, the menu is brief and well executed and everyone seems happy just to be there. My wife had the "sexual chocolate" French toast and I had the chilequillas. Both were huge and had tons of flavor. This place is a must see in the area for sure.

Pretty bad service, and not what I was expecting after reading the reviews. The brisket was dry, and looked more like roast beef then a brisket, and came out as thin greyish slices I associate more with school food. The pork was also dry, and we needed to ask for extra gravy. For drinks we had to ask multiple times for refills, overall not the service or food that I was expecting, and this restaurant did not seem to live up to the reviews. We did go for dinner, so maybe breakfast is better here.

SUCH a treat! We stopped here on a trip from CO to MI with a stop-over in Omaha because of an episode of Diners, Drive-ins & Dives my husband had seen. So very glad we did! We were here for Sunday Brunch, one of my fav meals so I have high expectations...I was not disappointed. Had the cactus scramble, my husband had the Dixie scramble and the kids had French toast w/chocolate. All were fabulous (although I think mine was still the best). Terrific, friendly service...loved the eclectic vibe of the decor and adjoining gallery. 5-stars for certain (unless, as my 11 year-old says "we could give them more..."). Only wish we had an occasion to be back in the Omaha area...Awesome. Thanks.

I've been a loyal customer of Dixie's at all three locations and am so proud of the newest incarnation in CB! I, personally, have never had a bad or even mediocre meal at Dixie's. Ever. It is true, there was an incredibly rude server/manager - but he is GONE now and that makes me happy! As for the comments about the menu being on a chalkboard - get over yourself! When the menu changes as often as Dixie's they'd take out a rain forest in reprinting menus! Get off your butt and read! Sheesh! Dixie's is also the best brunch in the area, so if you don't want to wait, hit an IHop. The comment on the hollandaise floored me!! I am a hollandaise connoisseur and Dixie's has never disappointed (except when I arrive late and they are out!). I also must say, I question the pallet of anyone who does not like the biscuits and gravy and can only assume the person has become accustomed to packaged gravy and canned or frozen biscuits. This is fresh, homemade, food. If your pallet prefers frozen, commercial products, Dixie's isn't for you. Love the food, love the vibe and love the new space!!

Tasty! Salmon and the lemon garlic chicken were both good. Small beer selection, but I was happy. I live in San Francisco which is supposed to be hipster food Mecca, and this would totally fit in. I'll come back next time I'm in town.

OH MY GOSH! Our party of four arrived for dinner (with a reservation) and we were heartily greeted and promptly seated. We all had appetizers- the crab cake, quesadilla and potato pickle soup were served. The table fell silent because we were all cramming food in our faces at a dizzying pace. The entrees of salmon, and chiliques (spelling?) were just as amazing. Fantastic service, FRESH food and wonderful flavors. We will be back time and again. 3 Alcoholic drinks, 2 pots of hot tea, 3 appetizers, 4 large entrees and three dessert came to 122 bucks. What a steal! Can't wait to try brunch.

Went to Dixie Quicks at the recommendation of a co-worker this past Saturday night and he was right in they have really good food. The only real issue that I have was the host. He was more interested in goofing around on his iPhone than seating his customers. I was there for a couple minutes before he seated me. His co-workers noticed me waiting and tried to get his attention but, it didn't work. When he was done doing what he was doing he greeted me and sat me down. The reason I left their rating at 4 stars was because of the other staff and food. The waiter apologized for the host and took his time explaining the specials, ordering off the board and made a recommendation for me that was really good. I'll be back to try breakfast next time but, I do wonder if anyone from Dixie reads these reviews?

I arrived with high hopes after perusing the enticing website/menu online. Interesting interior, fun. Menus are not handed out, rather you have to walk to a chalkboard and stand in the middle of everyone eating to figure out what you want. I don't really see the point in this - but I guess it is greener than printing daily menus. I went once for dinner and once for lunch. The pork for dinner was pretty good although was not hot when they served it. The collard greens I got as a side were spicy which is fine but they just didn't taste good. I was hoping for more flavor from everything. Breakfast was decent - had bacon eggs and some chocolate french toast. Half my bacon was burned to a crisp and inedible. Not sure why they would serve that. The service for dinner was incredibly slow and for brunch was a bit better. Nice to see a place branching out from the boring beer selections and getting adventurous. I would probably go back just because there are so few decent places for brunch in omaha.

Service was not just bad...it was uncomfortably hostile. My date and I arrived about a half hour before the end of the posted brunch period hours. The hostess was reluctant to seat us and told us as much in a rather irritated tone, but grabbed a drink menu and seated us anyway. The waitstaff came across as cold and unwelcoming, one of them even openly complaining about all of the latecomers to brunch that day (which seemed to be a hint). After we received our meals, my order of a chicken and feta omelet was clearly botched and a tomato and basil omelet was brought in its place. The waiter took it back to the kitchen, whereupon a hasty addition of a sprinkle of chicken and feta was made. It was then re-served to me with the insistence that it had been a chicken and feta omelet all along. Having no recourse as a result of the description-less chalkboard menu, I was stuck eating this breakfast chimera, a nasty food abomination tasting something like sour spaghetti sauce with egg. Also, despite that my date and I had been polite and calm throughout all of this, two of the waitstaff appeared to be staring at us and gossiping with each other during our meal. I guess the take home message is this: If you enjoy a dining experience that consists of food that isn't really anything special and is accompanied by waitstaff disdain (founded in nothing more than the fact that you chose to bring your patronage to their restaurant--FOR SHAME!), then this is the place for you! Side note: After this rather bizarre experience, I've since read a handful of other reviews and browsed their website. It seems that snark and resentment toward the customer is part of the culture of this business. Take a look at the blatant harassment of some random former customer named Lydia on the "Rules" section. Rather immature, in my opinion. You be the judge, I suppose.

Our friendly Omaha host drove us across the river for breakfast before a beer fest on Saturday. We couldn't get in til 11:30, which probably speaks to the place's popularity, and our group was starving by the time we arrived. A good thing, because this is a breakfast lover's paradise. There aren't any menus per se, just a chalkboard on the back wall listing what's available. But the selection is top notch -- everything from scrambles to fruit laden pancakes to steak and eggs, plus a few more inventive dishes. My partner went for the acclaimed chocolate french toast, called Sexual Chocolate, and I decided on the chilaquiles, which basically amount to breakfast nachos. We had to wait another half hour or so before the food came out, but you can browse the adjacent art gallery while you wait, and your coffee cup is always full. Our waiter was knowledgeable, funny, and polite all at once, and everyone in the shop seemed to be in a similarly good mood. The food finally arrived, and it was divine. My "breakfast nachos" basically amounted to tortilla chips topped with eggs over easy, black beans, salsa, cheese, and onions, and I devoured it. The french toast looked over-the-top good, with a hearty dose of chocolate syrup, sliced bananas, pecans and whipped cream on top. In fact, everything at the table looked fabulous, and our empty plates at the end were a testament to that. It's too bad there isn't a similarly inventive place in Lawrence - I can think of a few quirky breakfast stops, but none with the expansive menu that Dixie Quicks boasts. And prices are pretty reasonable for what you get. We'll definitely return the next time we're in the area!

First time at this restaurant was on a Wednesday night. The place was was very busy... It is very good to see a nice restaurant in the newly resurrected downtown Council Bluffs area! I agree, I wish they would have other options for the menu. Standing in the middle in front of a table of patrons is not only annoying but I would think terribly uncomfortable for the people eating right there. The food was great, the three of us sampled the Dixie Burger and a pork medallion dish. My wife said the burger was the best she had ever had! Something she would not say lightly. Welcome to Council Bluffs, I hope the standards are maintained and they have a stream of repeat customers. I will be back! Hope they show up on Groupon soon.... :-).

One of our couple friends frequents this establishment monthly. Today my wife and I are visiting wineries in Iowa and this place was in the perfect location to start our day. Hearing so many positive reviews about this place only made our utter disappointment worse. We had done our due diligence and called ahead for a reservation. The "owner/manager" was kind but every other wait staff member seemed to look at us as if they knew we were from west Omaha and that we were basically Not welcomed. We were seated and waited 15 minutes before we decided to flag down someone to finally Oder. About 5 minutes into this waiting game we practically started counting the amount of times the staff walked by without acknowledging us. My wife even stood up and walked to thr chalkboard full of menu options to signal that we needed help. Finally the man that we flagged down reluctantly helped us. When our food finally arrived the disappointment continued. The fruit on the mixed berry French toast was completely frozen. We couldn't get out of this pretentious place fast enough. Normally I think it's passive aggressive to write negative reviews such as this one. However if I felt like the staff would have cared I would not have taken the time to voice my concern here. If you live in omaha, keep your money in nebraska and do not bother with this poor mannered, overrated, and snooty restaurant.

Never been to the original location but I really liked it here! The place was super urban and quirky at the same time. I got the eggs Benedict which was to die for!! Husband got the chicken fried steak which was a bit dry and not to our liking but it wasn't awful. Staff was very friendly and we didn't have to wait at 11 on a Saturday morning. I usually feel grease sick going to breakfast places but here, everything felt lighter. Thats always a plus in my book. I can't wait to come back for lunch or dinner next time.

Had breakfast/brunch here twice. Both times were great. Nice atmosphere in Council Bluffs with an art studio attached. Great food, had omelet once and the french toast the other. Potatoes were like grandma used to make and staff was very attentive. Would recommend to all.

Best breakfast in Council Bluffs hands down. Coffee is always fresh and the huevos rancheros is a favorite dish. Red potatoes were served on the side. Most restaurants use this as an excuse to dump the previous night's unused produce on the morning customer but the potatoes were very fresh. Service is always a standout.

I have been to Dixie Quicks twice now, and have had a great experience each time. I had never visited the old location, but I definitely love it now that it is located in Council Bluffs. Our servers were ever so nice and the owners, as noted, were really fun and you can tell they love what they do. The food is great, for dinner, lunch or brunch. They do use a single chalkboard as a menu. It can get kindof awkward but it's very unique. Just make sure you remember what you want to eat for when the server comes to take your order. :) My dad especially loved the quirky decor and fun atmosphere. There are dinosaurs everywhere and he kept saying "I feel like I'm on the west coast!' They do have outside seating, however from the middle of the day onwards, it is in direct sun and that is pretty unpopular. If you do come in for brunch, it is perfect and so nice on warm breezy mornings! As the rest of the reviews have noted, it is EXTREMELY POPULAR. Make reservations for 15-20 minutes earlier than you want to get in, because you will still have to wait 15-20 minutes to be seated. It's competely worth the wait.

Detoured by Dixie Quicks on the way from New York to Utah for something other than road food. John was very helpful explaining the menu and making recommendations. We were trying to avoid a food coma, so the two of us decided to split the blackened salmon and flour chicken quesadilla. Both were excellent and we would definitely stop here again

I ate here on their opening night, and after having been a fan of the place at their old location I was sincerely let down. I understand that they were looking to have a "soft open" rather than be totally gangbusters on their first day, so perhaps they were unprepared for being fully booked. I made a reservation and was happy to be seated immediately, but was a little disappointed to see that the chalkboard menu was still being used. It was especially awkward because we were seated in a different room than the menu, so to look at it we had to leave our table and stand awkwardly in the middle of a busy restaurant and a busy walkway to read a barely legible chicken scratch menu. We sat at our table for 20 minutes before being asked what we would like to drink, and waited another ten minutes for the drinks to show up...this is the kind of service I am willing to tolerate for VERY good food, so I was not entirely seething while waiting because I was expecting a plate full of deliciousness that would make me forget all about being angry. We ordered, and then received what I presume are house salads, which I did not know were coming, and weren't much more than a couple mouthfuls of greens with a drizzle of some sort of vinaigrette...which was okay. I ordered pork loin with mashed potatoes and green beans, and food was tepid when it arrived. The pork loin was overcooked to a fault, dry and crunchy and utterly sad. The potatoes were not at all creamy, not at all rich, and were not much more than boiled potatoes that had been mashed and formed into a scoop shape. The green beans were just boiled beans in a side dish. I took only a few bites and sulked the rest of the evening. I was wildly disappointed, I had come to have high expectations of Dixie Quicks and when I received food that I would expect from a lousy roadside diner it sort of broke my heart.

I loved their food when they were on Leavenworth in Omaha. Their new place in CB is large and light. Great servers, great food, great art next door. They are happy to have you dine with them. Doesn't get much better than this.

Somebody please #brunchharderthanme. Popped my DQ cherry with 13 metric tons of Sexual Chocolate French toast....and....I came. Literally and figuratively. Let's just come right out with it. It was magical. My brunch mate had the sausage gravy and biscuits which were also something to write home about. Their mimosas are delicious, the restaurant has an awesome vibe, and the service is kickass. If you wanna break the fast in a big way, Dixie Quicks hooks it up. Getcha some.

Dixie Quick's is a pretty great brunch or lunch spot. The first time I went I got an egg dish with nopales, which was delicious. I liked the chilaquiles on my second visit a bit less, I think because I have a hard time justifying any meal that lacks vegetables entirely and also because they were a slightly strangely textured and flavored homogenous mass. However, I would give DQ another try in a heartbeat next time I'm in the area. The atmosphere is fun and lovely, with nice servers and a kitschy cool vintage souvenir plate display behind the counter. Coffee is good. Be sure to check out the great little vintage shop in the adjacent gallery space before or after your meal.

So my buddy is in town on business. They have not been here since DQ has moved over to CB. Personally I like the art gallery. Its a very calming place. Now the food is OK. It was much tastier back in the day. I don't know what happened! If someone else is buying then sure I will eat it!

Ew. Ew. Ew. Blackeded catfish was way, way, way too fishy tasting, and yes I know it's 'fish,' but was very foul tasting. Seasonings were off in the greens also, I think it was dill. Yuckie + Red beans and rice was tasty. The waitress asked me if I wanted a to go box and I politely said no thank you. She had to notice my meal was barely touched, but she did not even you bother asking me if anything was wrong. + I really enjoyed looking through the vintage items at the attached store. I will go back to browse and shop, not to eat. + I almost forgot to mention the place is very nicely decorated. I loved the unique counter.

Excellent all around. A prediction: if Council Bluffs is ever to get out of its 40 year-old funk that began when they demolished the old downtown, it will have begun with the opening of this restaurant. The carnitas chilaquiles, at least, can hold its own with any fine comfort food dish in the country. Seriously.

Dixie Quicks makes for a nice outing in Council Bluffs. i've only ever been there for dinner, but hear their breakfast is amazing. I've been their a handful of times and always get the salmon. It tastes very fresh. Their sides are unique and pair well with the main dishes. I love that it's paired with a simple art gallery next door that displays local artist. Makes for a nice after-dinner walkthrough or while people are waiting to be seated. I would love to know the history behind the name as I don't think it's very fitting. Dixie Quicks sounds more like a diner rather than a trendy, classic establishment. Parking can be challenging until they get a parking lot made. Expect to walk on a busy night.

GREAT FOOD, GREAT ATMOSPHERE- HORRIBLE SERVICE we had Eggs Benedict and Dixie Scramble - eggs Benedict was great but the home fries were cold upon arrival and the Dixie Scramble was awesome in flavor but the home fries were cold. Server never was polite- never got refills from waiter- noticed all tables in this waiter section never got refills of coffee, some never got checked k. After receiving g food - This restaurant has great long term potential as long as they get the process in the kitchen to serve hot food and the waiter gets either better or they find a new one. If it wasn't for the food we might in not gone back

I fall more in love with Dixie Quicks with each visit. Last Friday I had the bow tie pasta topped with Cajun chicken and a thin layer of cheese in a delicious tomato broth with peppers. It was served piping hot, troubling only because the A/C happened to be out that day. That's okay; I couldn't stop eating (and happily sweating). Sides were mashed potatoes, which were creamy and with flavor unlike the bland and dry mashed potatoes served at many other places, grilled green onions with lime, and cornbread. The following day I visited for brunch and had the Dixie Scramble with salmon: two biscuit halves topped with a salmon filet and scrambled eggs and topped with a tomato butter sauce. My side was country potatoes, which stood out in flavor too. Once again, I brought leftovers home. Needless to say, it was a DQ weekend. Service both instances was phenomenal. And you can't beat the cool ambiance of the space - tall ceilings, funky art (and art gallery attached), and sweet '90s tunes. The prices are a tad above normal for the area, but the quality and quantity of the food more than makes up for the extra couple bucks per entree. I'm lucky Dixie Quicks is just a walk away.

I can't hear for brunch this morning and it was so delicious! We couldn't decide between which orders to pick off the menu so we got decided to just order two and share both- the breakfast quesadillas and the sexual chocolate French toast. The quesadillas were great. They had a fried top layer and with a layer of scrambled eggs, cheese, and a mix of onions and maybe cucumbers? On top was a light green salsa and crumbled cheese. We opted for a side order of the home fries, which were just OK. The quesadilla was pretty delicious though. Okay so the French toast... Umm amazing! We asked our waitress if we should get pancakes or French toast and she recommended French toast. We asked which style you should get (not very decisive here, folks) (berry, plain, or sexual chocolate) and she recommended the sexual chocolate. Four large pieces of French toast with bananas, chocolate chips, walnuts, and whip cream. Oh, and drizzled with chocolate sauce. Oh. My. Gosh. Like, you cannot go wrong with this order! Yes, you'll feel so full afterwards, but absolutely worth it. Nice outside patio and friendly staff. Will definitely be back! Nice job, council bluffs.

Cleanliness 4 Service 3 Food 3 Likelihood 4 1-5 (5 Best!) 3.5 I love Rob and I love Rene. I have been a customer since they first opened at 16th and Dodge in Omaha. It has been a "minute" since we stopped by for brunch. Long over-due. Our order taker was friendly, but not attentive. We had a third join us and it was a chore to get him service. She spent a lot of time at another table with friends/regulars. Most of the food was not hot, which is not typical for our experience. My personal love for both these men will always keep me coming back. They give so much for our community to be a better place for all. I like that.

Have you seen a picture of the sexual chocolate French toast? That's enough reason to make the trek to Council Bluffs for breakfast. In addition, I love art and you're basically eating in an art gallery. Everywhere you look is another art piece. You can never get bored. Quirky place with incredible food. Love this place. Wish they had one in St. Louis.

This place has an interesting flair. Doors hang from the ceiling, photographs decorate the walls, Audrey II resides in the back corner. There is a lot to look at. The menu is extensive. Breakfast seems to be available all day. There are many reasonably priced dinners that come with two sides. There is also a chalkboard of specials. This is where I found my choice for dinner. I went with friends who have been here before. They treated me to split a crab cake. Nicely plated with a sauce orange in color, diced tomatoes, some greens and coleslaw. It was perhaps the tallest crab cake I've seen. The cake was full of crab with not too much filler. The outside was delicate and did not mask the flavor of the crab. Bites eaten with sauce, tomatoes and coleslaw were delicious. I ordered the Spinach Gorgonzola Ravioli. Sounds good, right? It was. The ravioli was green, so I think perhaps that was the spinach in Spinach Gorgonzola Ravioli. Each was filled with a green colored cheese. I believe there may have been a hint of spinach there, too. The tomato sauce was chunky and with chunks of bleu cheese, was the perfect compliment to the pillows filled with cheese. The Brussel sprouts were nicely charred and cooked to perfection. The collard greens were very heavily flavored with vinegar and a bit of heat. The greens were good, but what was interesting is any bite taken after a bite of greens seemed to explode with flavor, particularly the Brussel sprouts. What a great combination. With so many other tempting options on the menu, I think I just might have to come back a few more times.

It's been a longggg time since I have been to Dixie Quick's! I last visited when they were still open in DT Omaha, now they have moved to a cool space in DT CB-not far away at all. I found brunch at 9:30am on a Sunday to be very leisurely and easy. We were seated immediately and food orders and food promptly followed. I ordered a daily special (brisket hash) and my love got the eggs benedict. Both were good, but not mind blowing to me. I would say both of our dishes rank with A-OK but something was lacking. With the hash, it was not flavorful enough (a rare complaint from me). The Benedict was pretty good, but the fruit we ordered as side was a tin can esque nasty fruit cocktail that I was totally not into. Who cans and preserves banana?? Texture an taste was not the greatest in my opinion. I was expecting fresh fruit from an establishment like this. Besides this, the food was fine. The fruit cocktail will never be ordered by me again and thats fine too. Easy fix. I am sure some people love it...but I just CANT. It's a cute environment with a patio to have brunch and enjoy your typical breakfast foods with a fancier new american twist. I would give it another try and explore more menu items. The locale really is charming.

How can anyone do breakfast wrong? Well, DQ brings breakfast to a while new level. Came here on a Saturday morning. Should have definitely made reservations cause this place is packed! Checked out the museum next door for 20 or so minutes and was sat -- the wait was short for how many people were on the waitlist ahead of us! I got sexual chocolate pancakes -- and if pancakes were sexy -- this would be it. My pancakes were huge drenched in chocolate sauce, bananas, nuts and whipped cream. I don't even know what anyone else ordered because I was too focused on what I was eating. The place is small, service is quick, and the decor is very homey and antique-y. The menu is on a chalkboard (very cute) and the tables are covered in vintage print. I don't cross over to CB often, but only for Dixie Quick's!

Dixie Quick's became my favorite brunch spot when it first opened in an unmarked Leavenworth building so many years ago. I loved both the ambiance and the food from the first visit. The ambiance of the spot they moved into on Broadway in Council Bluffs is somehow even 'more Dixie Quick's' than the original Dixie Quick's - a real accomplishment! The food and service don't impress me quite the same way they did back then. A recent dinner had highs (vegetable salad, brussels sprout and zucchini sides) and lows (bread, unexceptional pasta with dry chicken). One recent brunch followed suit (a rather unexceptional omelette), another fared much better - chilaquiles, and a scramble, both delicious! My rating is probably biased to the most recent experience (the dinner described above), but that's life. First, the waitress was overwhelmed and service suffered somewhat (though she tried admirably to keep up). Much worse, it took WAY too long to pay, a situation for which the staff were depressingly apathetic. Consider it my pet peeve. A mistake or delay means very little to me in and of itself, but the difference between a staff member who expresses regret and one who expresses indifference is tremendous. It is depressing when someone gives you canned verbiage ("we'll have this cleared up just as soon as possible") and their tone of voice clearly says even they don't believe what they are saying. Unfortunately, in this case, it'll most likely be the difference between me returning, and not.

DQ used to be in Omaha and now it is in a fantastic open plan space in DT Council Bluffs. If you are from Omaha, very little takes you across the bridge to CB BUT the food at Dixie Quicks is one of those things. The space is like an old warehouse and is decorated with an eclectic vintage vibe. They have a gallery space next door with art work but the food is the main event. We started out with the oatmeal and ice cream for the table. Seems like the oatmeal used to be warmer and then the ice cream would melt...but it was really good anyway. The other food we had (french toast with berries and whipped cream, make your own omelete and the Dixie Scrambler were all really good. The food is plentiful and really wonderful. We had great service and a wonderfully fun time overall. No better way to end a trip to The Big O. :)

I don't know why I chose the SOYISO SCRAMBLE because I'm a meat eater, but I'm glad I did. The soy part is the sausage and its scrambled with cheese and eggs. The plate comes standard with black beans and pico de gallo sauce, corn tortilla (3), and tomatillo sauce. I thought the dish was delicious and flavorful. The atmosphere is super artsy and the art gallery in the other room adds a fun touch to the place. I thought the food took a little too long to come out but I'm forgiving when I think it's worth the wait. Also, some of the staff have this "I'm too cool for school" vibe, which I don't know how know I feel about but my husband thinks it is really annoying. Otherwise, I've been here before; I'll probably return to try their other breakfast dishes.

Dixie Quicks is amazing and definitely a hidden gem! It is located off of broadway in Council Bluffs but just because it is hidden doesn't mean it's a secret. You will definitely want to make a reservation because on most days you will not be seated without one. The food is amazing! We have been for brunch, lunch and dinner. For brunch I had the french toast that was amazing and my husband had the eggs benedict! We were both impressed at both the portion size and quality of the food. When we visited for lunch I had this lemon herb chicken with brussel sprouts and potato salad that was out of this world. Everything that I have tried on the menu has been phenomenal. The wait staff is also great and speedy. We were impressed that our bread and salad came out almost instantly after we ordered and just as we were finishing that up out came our entrees. Very good service! The decor and atmosphere is unique which sets Dixie Quicks apart! It displays artwork throughout the restaurant. The tables are also unique with the comic book covers found covering the table tops. Overall one of our favorite places to eat in the area!

Awesome. I live in downtown Omaha so this is just a hop, skip and a jump for me. I'm an early bird so there is always street parking. Got in both times without a reservation. The staff is friendly and attentive. Now the food. I am a Benedict fiend. Theirs is just awesome. Crunchy, buttery English muffin, perfectly cooked egg and spectacular hollandaise. The salmon Benedict is amazing as well. I almost never order salmon but this is just to die for. The coffee is great and they keep it full for you. The omelette selection looks wonderful but I have yet to bring myself not to order some form of Benedict. It's a hard knock life I suppose.

Absolutely love it here!! The eggs Benedict are fantastic. They have one of the best hollandaise I've ever had. The salmon Benedict is also amazing!! My personal favorite is the chiliquilles. We love Dixie Quicks!!! Whenever family comes to visit brunch is a must. The staff is great and always friendly when we run into them around town. Our favorite dishes are the carnitas chilaquiles and the sexual chocolate French toast. This venue is dog friendly on the patio. They always bring my little puppy a bowl of water and some treats. The owners are knowledgeable about art and music. The atmosphere is lovely.

I've been to Dixie Quicks twice and this review reflects both. The service is always welcoming and inviting. The specials for the day are always written on the blackboard, which is a nice touch. Their special cocktails are very creative as well. My friend got a jalapeño infused cocktail and it was pretty spicy. But the food, a lot of people say it's out of this world and whatnot, but I don't think so. Sure, they have some dishes that you can't find at a lot of places, but the quality just isn't there. Some food items are bland and tasteless and not really well prepared. The chicken fried steak for instance, the gravy was just plain and the portion size didn't reflect the price. It's good to go and get that breath of fresh air compared to the other restaurants around here, but with the food quality and cost, I'll most likely be going somewhere else.

Actually the worst restaurant experience I've had. The owner accused my wife and I of trying to pay with a stolen gift certificate. The gift certificate wasn't signed, so he deduced we stole it. He was accusatory, combative and rude, and the exchange ended in a scream-down argument. Unacceptable. As for the food, I'll try to be objective. We ordered a drink an an appetizer, a crab cake, which was delicious. It was loaded with crab meat and came on a bed of cole slaw that was phenomenal in its own right. We finished our drinks and appetizer before we saw our waitress again to order our entrees. My wife had the brisket, which was tough and chewy. The sauce was good, but the meat was definitely a workout for the jaw. I had one of the specials, a ribeye, which was full of grizzle and drowned in a spicy sauce. It was difficult to navigate with the butter knife that was provided, and half way through I got tired of fighting with it and was done. It was the consistency of chewing gum anyway, so leaving half of it wasn't very disappointing. I will never go back here and anyone reading this review should never go there. There are many other restaurants within 5 minutes of here that have better food, better service and don't accuse their paying customers of being criminals.

OMG! This place is the bomb! The staff is friendly, helpful, and oh so eager to please. Do make reservations. This place gets to hoppin' 15 minutes after the doors swing open. Parking is free on the weekends. I love the ambiance...open, eclectic, artsy with a focus on fun food. What? Fun food? Not quite sure what that translates to. How about oatmeal and ice cream, espresso eggs with goat cheese? Take your food just a little more serious...chilaquiles with carnitas, black beans, and queso fresco. All drizzled with a spicy chili sauce...Yum! Maybe you've got a sweet tooth. Well! You'll be craving the sexual chocolate French toast. Piled high and drenched in chocolate, pecans, bananas and whipped cream. This is serious, 5 large! If ya wanna be bad...and...when don't I ? But,not real bad, you can buy your crack...I mean... French toast by the slice. Or two slices, if you're not quite committed to being THAT good! Perhaps you're on a health kick, and you want to feel good about your breakfast choices...have some fruit. Mixed berry French toast! Might not make you feel exactly health conscious, but once you taste it, all those silly misplaced sensibilities will vanish clean out of sight. Be sure and wet your whistle with one of the delicious Brunch cocktails, Mimosas, Bloody Mary's etc. or maybe you're more of a peach tea,or lemonade...what ever your choice, there is something to delight every palate and titilate every taste bud. So come and get titilated!

This place is great. It was Stella Long's brothel back in the day. The food is great. The staff is great. The crowd is awesome. Chef Rene prepares a burger that could makes a grown man cry. A truly artful experience all around. The staff is great, the owners talk to everyone they can. The eggs Benedict is the real deal. Check out the attached art gallery.
